Reviving History with Modern Technology: A Gate Automation Project in Batley
At NDS Electrical & Security, we recently had the pleasure of working on a unique project at an old manor house in Batley, where we transformed a 50-60-year-old Victorian-style gate into a fully automated electric gate system. This installation beautifully marries historical charm with modern convenience, providing the homeowner with a significant cost saving while enhancing their property's security and functionality.
A Classic Gate Meets Modern Innovation
The original gate, with its classic Victorian style, has been part of the property for decades. Converting it to an electric gate required a delicate balance of preserving its historical value while incorporating the latest in gate automation technology. The goal was to maintain the aesthetic appeal of the manor while upgrading to a more convenient and secure system.
Seamless Control from Anywhere
To provide maximum flexibility and convenience, we integrated two forms of access control:
- Radio Hand Transmitter (Remote Control): Allowing the homeowner to control the gate with ease.
- Mobile Phone Entry System: This innovative feature supports up to 1,000 registered users, enabling secure access to the property via mobile devices.
Additionally, the intercom system with mobile integration means that if someone calls at the gate, the owner is notified directly on their smartphone—no matter where they are in the world. The owner can then grant access through an app or simply by pressing a button on the call, offering unmatched convenience and control.
Overcoming Challenges and Adjustments
Every project comes with its unique challenges, and this was no exception. The gate, being over half a century old, was not perfectly level. Our team made precise adjustments to ensure smooth operation. We also had to cut off the old spindles and replace them with a custom plate to fit the new gate automation system. Despite these challenges, the project was completed in just two days, showcasing the expertise and efficiency of our team.
How Much Does An Electric Gate Conversion Cost?
The total cost for this transformation was around £2,500 plus VAT— a fraction of what a complete gate replacement would have cost. Additionally, the intercom system, chosen for its robust features, cost £700 but depending on the features you require and what model you choose an appropriate budget for an intercom could range from £250 to £2,000.
A Perfect Blend of Old and New
This project is a fantastic example of how we at NDS Electrical & Security can blend the old with the new, preserving historical elements while providing modern-day functionality and security. The result is a stunning, fully automated gate that reflects the elegance of the property while offering convenience, safety, and peace of mind to its owner.
